About Ezra
Ezra Muir is a contemporary figurative painter deeply inspired by the richness of the Pacific landscapes, and especially by the Hawaiian islands. When you are first exposed to the richly colored Hawaii landscapes of Ezra Muir’s paintings, you can imagine a time gone by.
Muir’s oil on cavas compositions typically display serene tropical scenes characterized by impressionist brushstrokes, a rich color palette, and a conceptual transcendence of time. Each one of Muir’s works seem to be floating between a tranquil nostalgic past and a romantic utopian future.
Wind is a recurring motif within Muir’s oeuvre. Warm breezes are visually evoked by leaning palm trees, the blurring of the horizon, and the gestural blending of the sky. Though his work is technically figurative and depicts realistic landscapes, there always is something dreamlike incorporated into each of his works. Empty boats and peaceful abodes hint at human presence, but ultimately, it is the ethereal beauty of nature that guides the narrative of Muir’s practice.
Muir has lived, worked and shown his art in New York, Paris, Zurich, and Italy. He has painted in Bali, Bora Bora, the Caribbean, and Latin America, taught in Australia, and toured the Pacific. In his words, “The love of the tropics is what guides the paint to the canvas.”
